Description of Event: What volunteers will be doing: Volunteers will help with the registration, t-shirts, start and finish - medals, clean up, post race food/fluids, and course as course monitors and water stations.

What: Outdoor Volunteer Day: Native Plant Nursery
Organization: Palos Verdes Peninsula Land

Description of Event: You will help transplant seedlings and prepare native plants to be planted in restoration sites around the Peninsula to improve wildlife habitat.
Special Instructions:
All volunteers must bring a photo ID (driver's license or school ID) and must register 48 hours in advance to participate. Volunteers who do not sign up in advance and receive a confirmation will not be permitted to enter the Navy base. Your vehicle may be subject to search. Please arrive 15 minutes early to account for the security. Volunteers will be working outdoors, so please wear closed-toed shoes, sun protection and be sure to bring drinking water and a snack.

Description of Event: If you would like to volunteer with food distribution and sorting, or in any other capacity, call your local post office and ask to speak to the local food drive person there. Many food banks have a great need for volunteers on Food Drive Day as well as all throughout the year.

NJHS Dwyer Charter Information

The purpose of Dwyer National Junior Honor Society Charter shall be to honor and encourage a spirit of scholarship; to encourage citizenship; to give opportunities to serve the community; and to acknowledge and promote the building of a strong character in each of its members.


Dwyer National Junior Honor Society Charter students must meet the following scholarship criteria to be eligible for membership:

Scholarship - Students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 (on a 4.0 scale), have no “U’s” in citizenship during the first 3 quarters of the current school year, and no “N’s” in citizenship during the first 3 quarters of the current school year.  Students cannot have been suspended, received any discipline demerits, or expelled during the current school year.


The National Junior Honor Society’s tenets are based on the following characteristics:

Service - This quality is defined through the voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation and with a positive, courteous, and enthusiastic spirit.

Leadership - Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, promoters of school activities, idea-contributors, dependable, and persons who exemplify positive attitudes about life. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.

Character - The student of good character upholds principles of morality and ethics, is cooperative, demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability, shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others, and generally maintains a good and clean lifestyle.

Citizenship - The student who demonstrates citizenship understands the importance of civic involvement, has a high regard for freedom, justice, and democracy, and demonstrates mature participation and responsibility through involvement with such activities as scouting, community organizations, and school clubs.
