Title 1 Students/Programs

Title 1 Students

The Huntington Beach City School District designates all middle school students who have not scored ‘Proficient’ or ‘Advanced’ on BOTH the Math and Reading portions of the California Standardized Test (CST) as Title 1 students. Students who are not proficient on these assessments are considered to be behind California grade level standards. All students in California public high schools must take the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) in order to graduate with a high school diploma.

Research has shown that the single best predictor for success on the CAHSEE is success on the 8th grade CST assessments. Accordingly, Dwyer Middle School directs considerable resources to helping students be proficient on these assessments.
