I have some super news to announce. On Wednesday, April 1, we received a call from the California Superintendent of Schools, Jack O’Connell, informing us that Dwyer Middle School  is one of only 261 schools in California to be named a 2009 California Distinguished School! We have come a long way from being a Program Improvement school just three years ago. It is very hard to move out of Program Improvement status for any Title 1 school, and it is rarer still to become a California Distinguished School, once a school has been placed on PI status. I am overwhelmingly proud of the faculty and staff at Dwyer. They are outstanding professionals, and richly deserve this distinction. I am also proud of the incredible support we receive from our PTSA, our community of families, and the hundreds of volunteers and donors at Dwyer. Of course, the students are the real champions at the House of Scholars and Champions. Their hard work and dedication to their education is the cornerstone of our success, and the reason we are a Distinguished School. Congratulations to everyone in the Dwyer community!
